Your energies are best spent submitting to the directories & getting links from other relevant websites. But you still really need to submit to major search engines.
The search engines will find sites through links, if there are links to your website, the search engines will eventually find your site anyway but by sumbmitting your site to search engines they will have their crwler crawling your site with in a month.
